Internet Express Windows98 Set-Up

Stage One

DOUBLE CLICK on the icon "Connect to the Internet" on your Windows 98 Desktop.

Select the middle option "I have an existing Internet account through my phone line etc." CLICK 'NEXT'.

Select the top option "Select this option is you are accessing the Internet using an Internet service provider etc." CLICK 'NEXT'.

Set Up Your Internet Connection
CLICK on the option "Connect using my phone line" CLICK 'NEXT'.

Phone Number

Enter the Following details:
Area Code = Leave Blank
Telephone Number = 0198 331 201
Country name and code = Australia (61)
Uncheck the box "Dial using area code and country code" CLICK 'NEXT'.

User Name and password

Enter your full E-mail address eg: joeblogs@ix.net.au (lower case)
Enter your password that you choose when you created you account.
NOTE: Your User name ∓ password MUST be in lower case or login failure will accrue. CLICK 'NEXT'.

Advanced Settings

You are now asked, "Do you want to change the advanced settings for this connection?" Please select YES. CLICK NEXT

Connection Type

Select "PPP (Point to Point Protocol)" CLICK 'NEXT'.

Logon Procedure

Select "I don't need to type anything when logging on" CLICK 'NEXT'.

IP Address

Select "My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one" CLICK 'NEXT'.

DNS Server Address
Select "Server assigned name server addresses" CLICK 'NEXT'.

Dial-Up Connection Name

Please type in "Internet Express" CLICK 'NEXT'.

Set Up Your Internet Mail Account

You're now been asked, "Do you want to set up an Internet mail account?" SELECT "YES" then CLICK 'NEXT'.

Your Name

Please enter your name or name you wish to be displayed when you send an E-mail eg: Joe Blogs CLICK 'NEXT'.

Internet E-mail Address

Please enter your E-mail Address eg: "joeblogs@ix.net.au" CLICK 'NEXT'.
E-mail Server Names
Enter the following details:
My incoming mail server is a "POP3" server.
Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server = pop3.ix.net.au 
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server = smtp.ix.net.au CLICK 'NEXT'.

Internet Mail logon

Select "Log on using"
Enter your email address in the "POP account name" field.
Enter your password in the "Password" field. CLICK 'NEXT'.

Friendly Name

Enter the following details:
Internet mail account name = mail.ix.net.au CLICK 'NEXT'.

Set Up Your Internet News Account

Select "YES" CLICK 'NEXT'.

Your Name

Please enter your name or name you wish to be displayed when you send an E-mail eg: Joe Blogs CLICK 'NEXT'.

Internet News E-mail Address

Please enter your E-mail Address eg: "joeblogs@ix.net.au" CLICK 'NEXT'.

Internet News Server Name

Enter the following details:
News (NNTP) server = news.ix.net.au 
NOTE: You're not required to log on to the news server so no need to check the box. CLICK 'NEXT'.

Friendly Name

Enter the following details:
Internet news account name = news.ix.net.au CLICK 'NEXT'.

Set Up Your Internet Directory Service

Select "NO" CLICK 'NEXT'.

Complete Configuration

CLICK 'FINISHED'.

Stage Two

CLICK ONCE with the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON on the Internet Explorer icon on your Windows 98 Desktop.
When the sub menu appears CLICK on the "Properties" button with the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON.

CLICK on the "General" tab on the top.
Enter the following:
HomePage
You can change which page to use for you home page.
Address = http://www.ix.net.au/

CLICK on the "Connection" tab on the top.

Stage Three

Double CLICK on the icon "Outlook Express" on your Windows 98 Desktop.
When Outlook Express loads it will most likely ask you to "Select the connection you wish to dial" CLICK on 'CANCEL'.

Outlook Express

CLICK on "Tools->Options " from you top menu bar.
CLICK on the top tab "Send"
Uncheck the box "Send messages immediately" CLICK 'APPLY'.
CLICK 'OK'.
CLICK on File->EXIT" from your Outlook Express menu bar.

Congratulations your system has now been set up to connect to Internet Express.
