Internet Express Windows 98SE Set-Up
DOUBLE CLICK on the icon 'Connect to the Internet' on your Windows 98 Desktop.
SELECT the bottom option 'I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network [LAN]'. CLICK
'NEXT'.
Set Up Your Internet Connection.
CLICK on the option 'I connect through a phone line and a modem' CLICK 'NEXT'.
Phone Number.
ENTER the Following details:
Area Code = Leave Blank
Telephone Number = 0198 331 201
Country name and code = Australia 61.
UNCHECK the box 'Dial using the area code and country code'.
Advanced Settings.
CLICK on the 'Advanced...' button then select the top tab called 'Addresses'
The following details should be selected.
IP Address = Internet service provider automatically provides one.
DNS server address = Server assigned name server addreses
CLICK 'OK'.
CLICK 'NEXT'.
User Name and password.
ENTER your User name eg: jbloggs
ENTER your password, chosen when you created your account, eg: 123xyz
NOTE: These MUST be in lower case or login failure will occur. CLICK 'NEXT'.
Connection Name.
ENTER 'Internet Express' CLICK 'NEXT'.
Set Up Your Internet Mail Account.
The question, 'Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now?' appears. SELECT 'YES' then CLICK 'NEXT'.
Your Name.
ENTER a name you wish to be displayed when you send an E-mail eg: Joseph Bloggs CLICK 'NEXT'.
Internet E-mail Address.
ENTER your E-mail address eg: jbloggs@ix.net.au CLICK 'NEXT'.
E-mail Server Names.
ENTER the following details:
My incoming mail server is a 'POP3' server.
Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server = pop3.ix.net.au
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server = smtp.ix.net.au CLICK 'NEXT'.
Internet Mail logon.
ENTER your email address in the 'Account name' field.
ENTER your password in the 'Password' field.
CHECK the box 'Remember password'. CLICK 'NEXT'.
Completing the Internet Connection Wizard.
UNCHECK the box: 'To connect to the Internet immediately, select this box then CLICK Finish'.
CLICK 'Finish'.
CLICK ONCE with the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON on the icon 'Internet Explorer' on your Windows 98 Desktop.
When the sub menu appears CLICK on the 'Properties' button with the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON.
Homepage set-up.
CLICK on the 'General' tab at the top. (You should already be on 'General')
ENTER the following in 'Homepage address':
http://www.ix.net.au/
CLICK on the 'Connection' tab at the top.
Under 'Dial-up settings', CLICK ONCE on 'Internet Express (Default)' then CLICK on 'settings'.
DOUBLE CLICK on the icon 'Outlook Express' on your Windows 98 Desktop.
When Outlook Express loads it will most likely ask you to 'Connect to the Internet'. CLICK on 'Work offline'. (You may need to close the error message that results).
Outlook Express.
CLICK on 'Tools' then SELECT 'Options' from the top menu bar.
CLICK on the top tab 'General'.
CHECK the box 'When starting, go directly to my 'Inbox' folder'.
UNCHECK the box 'Send and receive message at startup'.
CLICK on the top tab 'Send'.
UNCHECK the box 'Send messages immediately' CLICK 'APPLY'.
CLICK 'OK'.
CLICK on 'Tools' then SELECT 'Accounts' from the top menu bar.
When an 'Internet accounts' box shows up CLICK once on 'ADD' then SELECT 'NEWS..'.
ENTER the name you wish to use in the 'Display name' field, eg: Joseph Bloggs CLICK 'NEXT'.
ENTER your E-mail address in the 'E-mail address' field, eg: jbloggs@ix.net.au CLICK 'NEXT'.
In the 'News (NNTP) server' field, ENTER news.ix.net.au CLICK 'NEXT'.
CLICK 'FINISH'.
CLICK 'CLOSE'.
The question 'Would you like to go online and download newsgroups from the news account you added?' appears.
CLICK 'NO'.
CLICK on 'FILE' then SELECT 'EXIT' from your Outlook Express menu bar.
Your system has now been set up to connect to Internet Express.
