Manual Setup Guide for Outlook Express

Before you start: This guide will show you how to manually change the settings in Outlook Express.
The screenshots in this guide are from Outlook Express 6, as all versions of Outlook Express are very similar you shouldn't run into any problems if you're using a different version.

We recommend that you try using the automatic setup program provided with the following guides before you proceed. If you are removing your old mail accounts from Outlook Express you may need to follow this guide.

You should only proceed if you want to add or remove your e-mail account manually.

Removing an old mail account from Outlook Express:
You should proceed with this guide only if the following applies to you:
You have completed the
Automated Outlook Express guide. (or are unable to complete it)
or
You require an old account removed.

Start by running Outlook Express, usually located in the "Start Menu" under "Programs" or "All Programs".
If you still can't find it try clicking on the "Start" button, then click on the "Run..." button. Once that loads type "msimn.exe" without the quotation marks then click "OK".

Once Outlook Express is open find and click the "Tools" button located up the top, then click on the "Accounts..." button. (image shown below)


A new window should open, and to make things easier to sort through, click on the "Mail" tab up the top. This will now list all the mail accounts currently installed in Outlook Express. (image shown below)


Now, to remove an account, click on the account you want to remove (i.e. mail.ix.net.au) so it gets highlighted, then click on the "Remove" button located at the top right of the screen under the "Add" button.
Outlook Express should then present you with a confirmation window, so if you're sure you want to remove the account, click on the "Yes" button. (image shown below)


Now you're done!




Adding a new mail account in Outlook Express:
You should proceed with this guide only if the following applies to you:
You have completed the
Automated Outlook Express guide. (or are unable to complete it)
or
You require an old account removed.

Start by running Outlook Express, usually located in the "Start Menu" under "Programs" or "All Programs".
If you still can't find it try clicking on the "Start" button, then click on the "Run..." button. Once that loads type "msimn.exe" without the quotation marks then click "OK".

Once Outlook Express is open find and click the "Tools" button located up the top, then click on the "Accounts..." button. (image shown below)


A new window should open, and to make things easier to sort through, click on the "Mail" tab up the top. This will now list all the mail accounts currently installed in Outlook Express. (image shown below)


If there are no accounts listed (unlike the image above), that's fine, as we're about to create one.
From the screen shown above, click on the "Add" button, followed by the "Mail..." button. This will present you with a Wizard which will collect all the necessary information to create a new mail account.
Firstly, please enter a display name, people will see this when they receive e-mails from this account. Once you've done that, click "Next". (example shown below)


Now, enter your e-mail address here, then click next. (example shown below)


This screen will ask for the mail server addresses, here you need to enter "pop3.ix.net.au" for the POP3 server address and "smtp.ix.net.au" for the SMTP server address. Click next once you've completed this. (your screen should look like the image below)


This screen will ask for your account name and password. Just enter your e-mail address in the "Account name:" field followed by your password in the "Password:" field.
Make sure that you enter "@ix.net.au" (Without Quotations) after your account name and ensure that the "Secure Password Authentication" checkbox is unchecked like in the example below.
Once you've done that, click "Next".


Now you should see the Congratulations window, if so, Congratulations, you've just created a new mail account.

Finally, click "Finish" followed by the "Close" button and your done!
